Greetings!
Have you had the experience of working with a group to develop a mission statement? If you haven't, you can consider yourself among the fortunate. For many who have, even going for a root canal would be a preferred alternative.
In this month's article on strategic planning, check out an organization that reached consensus on a mission statement in under 20 minutes, and without Novocain!
This newsletter also includes an article on a team building process you can use to help an organization define whether it is a team or a group and identify its own stumbling blocks. And, if you use break-out groups, you will appreciate the description of "Rotating Flipcharts" a process for quality review of small group work. Finally, in the facilitation arena...
As always, our hope is that this newsletter will provide you some real jewels you can adopt immediately in advancing your leadership and facilitation.

Best Practice Tip for this Issue: Closing the Session
After all of the open issues, decisions, and action items have been reviewed and the session has been evaluated, don't forget to thank the participants for their involvement. Remind them of the part their efforts will play in the overall project objective. Before saying goodbye, be sure that everyone is clear on the next steps, including when and how the session documentation will be distributed as well as details for any follow-up meetings.
To learn more about closing your sessions, register for The Effective Facilitator course! For more details, call (800) 824- 2850.

| For Facilitators: Rotating Review | | Facilitators often use breakout groups to increase involvement and get more done in a short amount of time. However, following breakout groups, there is typically a report-back process. During the report- back, each team presents its results to the other teams. Yet, one of the challenges with the standard report-back process is that people generally are not...

| For Consultants and IT Professionals: Team vs. Group | | | Any project team, even the strongest ones, can fall into dysfunctional patterns. As facilitators, we are called in from time to time to help project teams and intact teams (people who work together on an on- going basis) get back on track. As one of the critical activities in our team building workshops, we ask participants to...

| Client Success Story: AutoTrader.com | | | Let me start by telling you how much I truly appreciated the Effective Facilitator class. I have used the principles I learned during this course in all aspects of life, both personally and professionally. The only instance in my life that has remained unaltered by the class is my relationship with my dog (she just doesn't get it!)...

| The PDI Difference | | | PDI stands for Practical/Dynamic/Interactive. It's what sets Leadership Strategies above the rest. The PDI Difference can be seen in every aspect of what we do.
Practical Methods that Produce Results: We use proven methods and techniques in both our training classes and our facilitated sessions. Each and every session is carefully planned and executed with precision to ensure consistent results that apply to real-life situations - and produce measurable results.
Dynamic Energy that Keeps You Engaged: Our facilitators operate on "Level 3" energy so participants are engaged from beginning to end. No doodling in our sessions! We also use a wide variety of techniques to keep the interest high and be sure everyone contributes their best ideas.
Interactive - Proven Methods for Successful Integration and Application: In our facilitated sessions, our trained facilitators set people up in teams to enhance collaboration and ideas that work from every angle. In our training sessions, it's "practice, practice, practice" so participants learn by doing it themselves, by critiquing others in the class, and receiving immediate feedback from the instructor.
