Leadership Strategies is a national leader in meeting facilitation, facilitator training, consulting skills, leadership skills and soft skills training for information technology professionals.

Greetings!

Prayers across America are going out to those impacted by Hurricane Katrina. When Lonnie Stockwell, the Managing Director of the New Orleans office of Postlethwaite & Netterville, left his home to attend our public class in Atlanta several days before the storm hit, he didn’t know whether he would have a home to go back to. He shares a very moving account of his experience during those difficult days.

If you have ever tried to implement values in your organization or to increase accountability, you may find the articles in the Strategy section and the Facilitation section helpful. The “accountability dice” is a fun tool that can be effective in holding people accountable. And the story on how a small company benefited from implementing a values-based culture can provide insights on values in action.

If you work with teams, check out the eight essentials. This article describes the eight things every team needs for sustained success.

For veterans of strategic planning, we have added a special class for the end of this year. “Facilitating Strategic Planning for Governments and Non-Profits” in Washington, DC November 1 and 2. I will be facilitating this workshop. Click here for additional information.

Finally, our 2006 public class calendar is available by clicking here.

Here’s to a focused and productive Fall!

Michael

Best Practice Tip for this Issue: Debrief with the Sponsor
As soon as possible after the session, meet with the sponsor to discuss the session process and the results. The debriefing session should cover:

  • How well were the objectives of the session met?
  • How well did the participants respond during the session?
  • How sufficient are the deliverables from the session?
  • What follow-up activities are needed?

To learn more about working with your sponsor, register for The Effective Facilitator course! For more details, call (800) 824- 2850.

  • For Leaders: The Accountability Dice
  • Leaders are often faced with the problem of addressing subordinates who are relatively strong performers, but who chronically miss deadlines. It is not unusual for the deadlines to be on special projects or activities outside the normal day-to-day operation. The situation can be perplexing. As one leader said to me, "What am I going to do? Fire them for missing a deadline?"...

  • The PDI Difference
  • PDI stands for Practical/Dynamic/Interactive. It's what sets Leadership Strategies above the rest. The PDI Difference can be seen in every aspect of what we do.

Practical Methods that Produce Results: We use proven methods and techniques in both our training classes and our facilitated sessions. Each and every session is carefully planned and executed with precision to ensure consistent results that apply to real-life situations - and produce measurable results.

Dynamic Energy that Keeps You Engaged: Our facilitators operate on "Level 3" energy so participants are engaged from beginning to end. No doodling in our sessions! We also use a wide variety of techniques to keep the interest high and be sure everyone contributes their best ideas.

Interactive - Proven Methods for Successful Integration and Application: In our facilitated sessions, our trained facilitators set people up in teams to enhance collaboration and ideas that work from every angle. In our training sessions, it's "practice, practice, practice" so participants learn by doing it themselves, by critiquing others in the class, and receiving immediate feedback from the instructor.
