Every profession has its own "bag of tricks" - those tools that are essential to getting the job done. This year we are embarking on a quest to create "The Ultimate Facilitator Toolkit."  Each month we'll show you a handful of items every facilitator needs to be prepared for a successful session.  The best news is - you guys will reap the benefits!  We're going to give away one of these kits every quarter, and all you have to do to enter the giveaway is give us your suggestions for content items.  Just post a comment below.

Here's what we have so far:

  • Scotch Tape
  • Facilitator Guides
  • The Quick Start Guide to Preparing and Agenda Setting
  • The Secrets of Facilitation, 2nd Edition
  • Blue tape
  • Dots
  • Markers
  • Flipchart
  • Flipchart paper
  • Post It Notes
  • Timer

- A camera to have someone candid pictures during the session and of work completed in the session for post workshop use.
- Large Post It Note Flip Chart paper (no tape needed!)
- Fun stress balls or shapes to use with the participants to engage discussion or re-energize a tired audience
- Colored post it notes and or markers to let each functional area or individual select a color to represent their ideas or input. This makes for easy identification during a session and afterwards to recall who had what idea / input.
- Extra black sharpies
- Small containers of play dough at tables for stress busters

A set of mixed/ramdom post cards you can use for an impromptu analogy icebreaker or energiser (i.e. this picture depicts how I feel now because/this picture symbolises XYZ for me because...)
