Leadership Strategies, Inc. was formed in 1992 when founder Michael Wilkinson left the Management Consulting Division of one of the nation’s largest accounting and consulting firms to turn a part-time vocation into a full-time business. As a volunteer in church, civic and professional organizations, he had become frustrated by the wasted volunteer time and resources due to a lack of direction, a lack of basic people motivational techniques, and an absence of processes for transferring skills and knowledge from year to year. He began spending his weekends facilitating strategic planning retreats and professional development training sessions for the volunteer organizations to which he belonged.
It wasn’t long before weekend successes with his own civic associations resulted in requests from other organizations for facilitation assistance. Over time, what was once hobby evolved into a corporation. Today, Leadership Strategies, Inc. has operations in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, Sidney, Australia, Toronto and Washington, DC and a paid employee and contractor staff approaching 50 people.
